It is regrettable that the SA Competition Commission has dropped the investigation against Vertex Pharmeceuticals. The reality is that Cystic fibrosis patients in South Africa face unequal access to life-saving treatments. While the recent agreement with Vertex is a step forward, it only benefits a small group with access to private healthcare or full medical aid. Public health patients and those on hospital plans remain excluded due to the unaffordable cost of CFTR modulator therapy. This disparity is unacceptable.
